New Lake Park stage almost complete

Thanks to a mild winter, construction on the new Lake Park stage appears to be moving quickly. Lake Park Friends planned and funded the stage. It’ll be used for Musical Mondays and other shows in the park.

Why Milwaukee’s “cream city” nickname comes from bricks (not beer)

88Nine RadioMilwaukee (88.9 FM) recently aired a great piece on the history of Milwaukee’s signature “cream city” bricks. These bricks were regularly used here during the mid to late 19th century, and are found on numerous historic buildings, including a number in the HWTN area. It’s the bricks, not the beer, that earned us the name “cream city.”

The radio story features an interview with the Milwaukee Historic Preservation Commission’s Paul Jakubovich, who also talks about historic preservation.
